A questionnaire is uploaded and parsed into blocks you can actually inspect. When the parse is wrong — and on a real instrument it sometimes is — you correct it and re-parse, with a stage log and an audit of what changed.

Most tools parse silently. Which means the first sign of a bad parse is a cross-tab that makes no sense.
